Barons Fall to Biscuits 3-1 in Season Finale

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Montgomery starting pitcher Chris Kirsch and the Biscuits held Birmingham to just four hits Monday afternoon, handing the Barons a 3-1 loss to close out the 2015 season.
Kirsch (3-4, 5.69 ERA) dealt six innings, allowing the Barons' lone run on four hits. The relief trio of Ryan Garton, Matt Lollis and Brad Schreiber accounted for the final three innings of the contest, no-hitting the Birmingham lineup through the seventh, eighth and ninth.
Montgomery centerfielder Dayron Varona was 2-for-4 put the Biscuits on the board in the first inning with an RBI single. The outfielder struck again in the fifth with a two-RBI single to left. Varona was responsible for all three runs batted in.
Birmingham plated one run in the sixth via the only Barons' extra-base it. Nicky Delmonico bounced a ground-rule double over the wall in left-center to plate catcher Jeremy Dowdy. Despite the late score, the bullpen shut down the offense following the sixth frame.
Along with Delmonico's RBI double, Jacob May, Marcus Lemon and Jeremy Dowdy were the only other Birmingham batters to reach base with a hit. Chris Jacobs, Tony Thomas, Joey DeMichele and May each reached base on balls.
Barons' starting pitcher Myles Jaye (12-9, 3.29 ERA) came up empty for his search for his league-leading 13th win. His 12 wins currently tied for first in the Southern League. The right-hander tied his season-high for hits allowed with 10, and gave up three runs through six innings. Nolan Sanburn threw the game's final two innings, allowing just one hit while walking one and striking out one.
The defeat dropped Birmingham's record to 69-70 for the year and 36-34 in the second half. The Barons finish the season fourth in the overall standings and third in the Southern League's second half standings. The team finished with a Southern League North record of 35-39.
