 Omaha Storm Chasers

Chasers Fall in Season Finale to Nashville

September 7, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers finished the 2015 regular season with a 6-3 loss to the Nashville Sounds, ending the year with a three-game losing streak. The Storm Chasers posted a 80-64 record in 2015, and tied with the Iowa Cubs for second place in the American Conference North Division behind the Oklahoma City Dodgers.

Jose Martinez was not in the lineup for the finale, ensuring that he would maintain his Pacific Coast League-leading .384 batting average and win the league batting title. That mark is now the new modern era record for the PCL (dates back to 1958), eclipsing the .383 average by Rick Short in 2005 for New Orleans. It is also a franchise record for Omaha, as the previous best was the .372 batting average by Jeremy Giambi during the 1998 season. Martinez' .384 mark was also the highest for any Minor League player in 2015.

The Storm Chasers pitching staff ended the year with a 3.86 team ERA, which was the lowest since they joined the Pacific Coast League in 1998. The previous PCL low was the 3.91 ERA during the 2013 season, and the 3.86 ERA was the best for Omaha overall since the 1991 season (3.80 ERA that year). It was also the third best team ERA in the PCL in 2015.

It was the seventh time in franchise history that Omaha won 80 or more games, and the third time in the last six seasons, and only the second time that 80 or more did not result in a playoff berth. Omaha will not participate in the Pacific Coast League postseason for the first time since the 2010, missing the opportunity to become the second team in league history to win three straight PCL Championships (Albuquerque in 1980-82).

Over the course of the 2015 season, Werner Park welcomed a total of 386,141 fans across 70 openings for an average of 5,516 per game. The 2016 season for the Storm Chasers will kick off on April 7 at home against the New Orleans Zephyrs, only 214 days away from today.
