Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Windsor, ON) - Logan Brown's second of the preseason stood up as the winner, as the Spitfires beat the Flint Firebirds 4-2 before a crowd of 3,585 at the WFCU Centre on Sunday night.
It was the first visit to Windsor for the Firebirds, who moved to Flint in the offseason from Plymouth.
The teams each scored in a fast-paced first period. After Cullen Mercer opened the scoring with a pretty backhander over the shoulder of Spitfires starter Michael DiPietro (26 saves), Daniil Vertiy took a nice Cole Carter feed from behind the Firebirds net and got rid of it quickly to even the score at 1-1.
Luke Kirwan beat Zack Bowman (28 saves) with a one-timer to the glove side to put the home side up 2-1 in the final minute of the second period.
Jacob Collins evened things up again at the 9:10 mark of the third period, converting on a broken play and a no-look pass from Will Bitten.
The Spitfires hit the road for their third of five preseason games on Sep 16th for a date with the Niagara IceDogs, before returning home to host the Sarnia Sting on September 17th .
