TROY, NY-The Connecticut Tigers (35-37) took the middle game of the three game series with the Tri-City ValleyCats (41-33) by a score of 8-2. Connecticut has earned themselves at least as season split with Tri-City.

With Connecticut trailing 1-0 in the fifth and ValleyCats starter Alex Winkleman (5-1) on the mound the Tigers rallied. Winkleman had retired 11 straight but with one-out shortstop Keaton Jones (3-5, 3 RBI, R) singled and with two-outs he moved to second on a wild pitch. He then scored on a base hit by catcher Tyler Servais (2-4, RBI, R) tying the score.

The inning continued as second basemen Pat Mackenzie tripled home Servais. Leftfielder Jose Zambrano (2-4, 2 RBI, R. BB) with reliever Adam Whitt in singled home Mackenzie making it 3-1. A few batters later designated hitter Corey Baptist (2-5, 2 RBI, 2B, R) drove in two runs to cap a five run inning for the visitors.

Winkleman ended up going four and two thirds for Tri-City. He gave up four hits and three runs while striking out five and walking one.

Jordan Smith started the game for Connecticut as he made his first professional start and worked the first four innings surrendering just one run on four hits. The one run he allowed came in the first after centerfielder Johnny Sewald walked, stole second and scored on a double from designated hitter Kolbey Carpenter.

With the score now 5-2 in the seventh the Tigers put the game away in the eighth as they scored three more runs off of David Scmidt. Jones had the big hit as he drove in two runs with a single while Zambrano picked up an RBI single to plate his second RBI of the night.

Ryan Milton (2-0) picked up the win for Connecticut going four plus innings. Milton allowed five hits and four runs with three coming in the ninth. Jake Shull came on for Connecticut to get the final three outs of the ball game.
