Knights Fall to G-Braves 2-1 Sunday

(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) - Charlotte right-hander Kyle Drabek allowed just two unearned runs over seven innings, but the Charlotte Knights were dealt a 2-1 loss to the Gwinnett Braves on Sunday in game two of their three-game series from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA.
The Knights pounded out a game-high eight hits to Gwinnett's four, but failed to push across more than one run in the middle game of the series. Dayan Viciedo led the way with three of Charlotte's eight hits and bumped his batting average up to .336 on the season.
G-Braves starter Victor Mateo (4-3, 5.36) allowed just one run on seven hits over six innings for the victory. It was Mateo's first win against the Knights in two tries this season. He struck-out six on the afternoon.
Gwinnett scored their runs in back-to-back innings beginning with the third. Braeden Schlehuber singled to start the inning and Mallex Smith followed by reaching base on a Drew Garcia fielding error at shortstop. With runners on the corners and no outs, Schlehuber scored the game's first run when Joey Terdoslavich hit into a double play. Gwinnett had a 1-0 lead as they headed to the fourth inning.
In the top of the fourth, Jason Coats and Viciedo hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. After Matt Davidson popped out for the first out of the inning, Matt Tuiasosopo singled home Coats to tie the game at one apiece (1-1). That was all the Knights could muster however as Mateo and two relievers held the Knights scoreless over the final five innings. Vin Mazzaro threw two shutout innings and David Peterson earned his second save of the year after a scoreless ninth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jordan Lennerton led things off with a walk. Two batters later, Barrett Kleinknecht moved Lennerton to third base after a single and Drew Garcia throwing error. With runners on the corners and just one out, Jones hit into a 6-3 ground out, which was enough to score Lennerton for the go-ahead run. That run proved to be the difference as the G-Braves held on for the 2-1 win. Garcia committed both of Charlotte's errors on Sunday.
Drabek (7-11, 3.47) gave up two unearned runs on four hits over seven innings and was the hard-luck losing pitcher. He walked four and struck-out three. Reliever Blake Smith tossed a scoreless eighth inning.
The two teams will conclude the 2015 regular season on Monday afternoon with a 12:05 p.m. game. RHP Brad Penny will toe the rubber for the Knights against Gwinnett RHP Jake Brigham.
