Sudbury Wolves News Release

The Sudbury Wolves opened up their exhibition schedule Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 win over the North Bay Battalion. An excellent team effort and timely saves helped lead the Wolves to victory over their Northern rival.

The Wolves came out very strong in the 1st period, creating chances and finishing their checks. The Wolves got on the board late in the first frame with a pair of goals from BEN GARAGAN and KYLE CAPOBIANCO. GARAGAN sniped home the first goal from the faceoff dot, while CAPOBIANCO finished off a very nice breakout from the Wolves' end just over three minutes later. OWEN LANE played a very strong first period gathering two helpers, while DMITRY SOKOLOV also added an assist on the second goal. After the first period of play, the Wolves held a slight edge in shots, 10-8.

In the second period, the Battalion fought back with a good effort and strong penalty kill to get themselves back in the game. North Bay scored their first goal of the game on a penalty shot by Sudbury native BRAD CHENIER who went five-hole on Wolves' goalie JAKE MCGRATH. The Wolves best chance of the period came from SOKOLOV whose shot hit the post. After 40 minutes of play, the shots were 22-16 in favour of the Battalion.

The Wolves and Battalion competed in back and forth play in the third period. The Battalion scored an early goal to tie the game up at two goals apiece when MAX KISLINGER scored off the rush. The Wolves were able to regain the lead later in the third period after strong pressure in the offensive zone. NICHOLAS ROMERO scored off the scramble in front of the net with assists coming from MICHAEL PEZZETTA and ALAN LYSZCZARCZYK. The Wolves were able to close the door late, once again thanks to ROMERO who score his second goal of the game. He was able to put in his own rebound after solid passes from BRADY PATAKI and MICHAEL PEZZETTA. Final shots were 35-34 in favour of the Battalion.

The Sudbury Wolves continue their exhibition schedule on Tuesday, September 8th as they travel to North Bay to close out the home and home series. The team returns to exhibition action at home on Friday, September 18th when they host the Barrie Colts.
