51s Walk Off Over Rainiers For 8-7 Win Kivlehan collects three hits, scores one

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Las Vegas 51s capitalized on a fielding error in the ninth inning to earn a walkoff victory over the Tacoma Rainiers on Saturday night at Cashman Field.

Tacoma scored seven runs in the first two innings and held a 7-4 lead going into the seventh inning before allowed a trio of runs in the seventh and eighth to knot the contest up at 7-7.

In the ninth inning Travis Taijeron worked his way to first after being hit by a pitch from Tacoma reliever J.C Ramirez and moved to second base on a single from Brandon Allen. Two batters later, a fielding error by Leury Bonilla allowed Taijeron to score the winning run from second base, sealing the 8-7 win for Las Vegas.

The Tacoma offense pounded out 13 hits in the game and were led by Patrick Kivlehan, who finished 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. James Jones (2x3), Jesus Montero (2x4), and Patrick Brady (2x4) all checked in with multi-hit efforts.

Rainiers starting pitcher Mike Montgomery provided 6.0 innings of work for Tacoma, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Sam Gaviglio and Ramirez worked 2.2 innings out of the Rainiers bullpen and combined to allow three runs (two earned) on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Ramirez was handed the loss, his second of the year with Tacoma.

Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (3-5, 6.00) gets the start for Tacoma in game three tomorrow, September 6. Las Vegas is scheduled to turn to righty Logan Verrett (4-2, 2.57) in response. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
