Team Effort Leads to 75th Win
September 5, 2015 - International League (IL1) - Rochester Red Wings News Release
ALLENTOWN, PA - Three players finished with three hits, four finished with multi-RBI games and Jose Berrios surrendered just one run over 5.0 innings as the Rochester Red Wings routed the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 13-1 Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Berrios (6-2) caps an impressive 2015 season by allowing three hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester, he threw a career-high 166.1 innings. Berrios yielded one or fewer runs in each of his final four starts with the Red Wings (75-67) while pitching to a 1.08 ERA (3 ER, 25.0 IP) with 14 hits, two walks and 32 strikeouts. Through action Saturday, he leads the minor leagues with 175 strikeouts.
Rochester used two big innings - the fifth and the eighth - in support of Berrios. Leading 2-1, the Wings plated six runs from five different players to take an 8-1 lead. Danny Ortiz's grand slam highlighted the five-run eighth to cap the scoring.
Every position player finished with a hit including Eric Farris, Doug Bernier and Ortiz, who finished with three hits apiece. All three drove in multiple runs as did Jose Martinez. Argenis Diaz and Farris each scored three times.
Alex Meyer (2.0 IP), Loek van Mil (1.0 IP) and Cole Johnson (1.0 IP) worked scoreless relief for the Wings, who have won three of the last four games. The 12-run winning margin is the largest by Rochester this season.
Michael Bowden starts game two of the series Sunday at 1:35 p.m. in the second-to-last game of the 2015 season. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
