Curve Lose Lead Late and Fall to B-Mets, 3-2

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Heading into the eighth inning with the lead and on the brink of clinching a postseason spot, the Altoona Curve surrendered three runs and lost to the Binghamton Mets, 3-2, on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium.

The Curve (73-67) need just one win over the B-Mets (76-63) in the final two days of the season to clinch a spot in the postseason.

Curve starter Zack Dodson pitched seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, allowing just four hits without walking a batter.

Binghamton rallied in the eighth inning against Curve reliever John Kuchno (Blown save, 7)(Loss, 3-6). With a pair of runners on, pinch-hitter L.J. Mazzilli drilled a two-run double to tie the game. Two batters later, Vince Belnome clubbed a go-ahead double against Tom Harlan.

The Curve broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning after a leadoff triple by Austin Meadows and a run-scoring double from Barrett Barnes.

Jose Osuna extended the lead to 2-0 with an RBI double in the sixth.

Paul Sewald (Save, 24) worked a perfect ninth to end the game.

The Curve and B-Mets play the third in the three-game series on Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium. Right-hander Jason Creasy (11-8, 4.53) takes the mound for Altoona, with right-hander Gabriel Ynoa (9-8, 3.94) pitching for Binghamton. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
