Legends Rally for 5-4 Win over Hagerstown
September 4, 2015 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release
Alexis Rivera's two-run triple in the sixth inning put Lexington in the lead, and the Legends held on for a 5-4 win over the Hagerstown Suns Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Rivera had two hits and drove in three runs in the game.
The Legends had trailed 3-0 and 4-3 before Rivera's hit gave them the lead for good.
Osvaldo Abreu led off the game for Hagerstown with a home run, and the Suns added two runs in the third inning.
Abreu started the third with a double and moved to third on a single by Matt Reistetter. Abreu scored on a double by Jose Marmolejos, who leads the South Atlantic League in runs batted in with 85. Reistetter came home on a ground out by Matthew Page, and the Suns had a 3-0 lead.
Lexington answered with two runs in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Austin Bailey was hit by a pitch and Chad Johnson singled. Both scored on Wander Franco's double to right field.
The Legends tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth when Samir Duenez led off with a single, stole second and came around to score on Rivera's double.
Hagerstown reclaimed the lead when Wilman Rodriguez led off the sixth inning with a home run, but the Legends rallied in the bottom of the sixth. Franco and Anderson Miller drew walks to start the inning. After Duenez bunted into a force play at third, Rivera's line drive landed just inside the right field foul line, and Miller and Duenez both scored, putting the Legends in front 5-4.
Hagerstown threatened in the eighth, but reliever Jake Newberry entered the game with the bases loaded and got Marmolejos on a grounder to first for the final out of the inning.
Torey Deshazier (4-5), who relieved starter Matt Tenuta in the sixth inning, got the win. Newberry earned his eighth save.
Hagerstown starter Justin Amlung (3-4) a Louisville native and former University of Louisville Cardinal, took the loss.
Each team has won one game in the series, which continues Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m.
