GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - The Kernels edged the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-4 on Friday in the rubber game of the series. The series victory snapped a stretch of four straight series-losses. Cedar Rapids returns home on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. to host the Clinton LumberKings.

The Kernels (34-33, 75-62) scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. With runners on the corners, LaMonte Wade grounded a ball to first. The throw came home and was dropped by catcher Natanael Mejia, allowing Edgar Corcino to score the game's first run. Alex Real then shot a RBI single up the middle to bring home T.J. White and make the score 2-0. With two outs, Brett Doe's RBI single to left plated Wade and extended the lead to 3-0.

Wisconsin (27-39, 50-86) cut the Kernels lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning with a RBI single to right by Tucker Neuhaus. It brought in Sthervin Matos, who walked and advanced to second on a groundout.

The Timber Rattlers added another run in the sixth inning, trimming the lead to 3-2. Jake Gatewood's two-out RBI double to deep right scored David Denson, who walked with two outs.

Wisconsin plated a pair in the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead. Matos began the inning with a walk, moving to third on a single to left by Natanael Mejia. Neuhaus looped a RBI single into shallow center to score Matos and tied the game 3-3. It also moved Mejia to third. He scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch as the Timber Rattlers took their first lead.

Cedar Rapids responded with a two-run eighth inning, jumping back in front 5-4. Corcino began the inning with a walk before White doubled to left to put a pair in scoring position. Corcino came home to tie the game on Max Murphy's RBI groundout. Wade's RBI single up the middle scored White, giving their Kernels a one-run lead.

Sam Gibbons pitched six innings for the Kernels, allowing two runs on five hits in a no-decision. He struck out four and walked two.

John Curtiss (3-3) allowed two runs on two hits in one inning out of the bullpen, picking up the victory. Zack Tillery earned a hold with a scoreless eighth inning. Nick Anderson picked up his third save with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out the final batter of the game.

Angel Ventura started and pitched six innings for the Timber Rattlers. He allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out eight and walking two. Scott Lieser struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning. Kodi Medeiros (4-5) suffered the loss for Wisconsin. He allowed two runs on two hits in two innings. He struck out four and walked one.

The Kernels return home on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. as they host the Clinton LumberKings, the Midwest League affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. RHP Keaton Steele (6-4, 3.33) is scheduled to start for the Kernels against Clinton's RHP Lukas Schiraldi (4-12, 4.99).
