Action Continues at Battalion Camp

North Bay Battalion News Release

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The North Bay Battalion's Ontario Hockey League training camp continued Friday, with the camp roster cut to 42 after the designation of eight players who are headed to lower-level junior or minor hockey teams.

They are forwards Curtis Abbott, Andy Baker, Stefan Palatsidis, Kameron Shearer and Daniel Walker and defencemen Eric Allair, Wade Brennan and Joseph Franzin. Allair is set to join the affiliated Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Forty-eight players skated in the second intrasquad game, an increase of one from Thursday, as right winger Kyle Moore, who played three games with the Battalion last season and with the Voodoos for the rest of the campaign, saw action for the first time.

The only two attendees not on the ice were defenceman Kyle Wood, a third-round choice of the Colorado Avalanche in the 2014 National Hockey League Draft, who has undergone hand surgery and will be sidelined for the start of the season, and right winger Calvin Gomes, who has an injured shoulder.

The two squads again practised apart at Memorial Gardens in the morning before the afternoon game, played in three 25-minute periods.

The Team Green and Team White benches were run by Ryan Oulahen and John Dean, Battalion assistant coaches, respectively. Stan Butler, director of hockey operations and head coach, observed with owner Scott Abbott from his box.

The four-day camp, which opened with off-ice activities Wednesday, wraps up Saturday after a third intrasquad game at 9 a.m. Following the on-ice session, which is open to the public at no charge, the roster is to be cut to the preseason level for the first exhibition game, against the host Sudbury Wolves at 2 p.m. Sunday.
