Reading's Andrew Knapp Named August Player of the Month

Portland, ME -- The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Reading Fightin Phils catcher Andrew Knapp has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of August. Knapp batted .404 (40-for-99) with nine doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 28 RBIs, 23 runs scored, one stolen base, a .469 on-base percentage and a .758 slugging percentage in 25 games during the month. The 23-year old kicked off the month with a 15-game hitting streak and went on to reach base in 24 out of the 25 games he played in during the month. Andrew also had 13 multiple hit games during the month, including going 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs in Reading's 11-1 win at Trenton on August 5th. The 6'1", 190 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.404), extra-base hits (18), total bases (75), home runs (8), on-base percentage (.469), slugging percentage (.758) and OPS (1.227) and tied for the league lead in RBIs (28). He also finished ranked among the monthly league leaders in runs scored (23-3rd), hits (40-tied 3rd) and doubles (9-tied 5th).

Knapp, who is a native of Roseville, California, was also selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of August 3rd-August 9th. Andrew is hitting .364 with 21 doubles, 11 home runs, 56 RBIs and 39 runs scored in 53 games with the Fightins since being promoted to Reading from Class-A Clearwater on June 25th.

Andrew, who is rated by MLB.com as the 17th best prospect in the Phillies organization, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the 2013 draft after hitting .350 with 16 doubles, eight homers and 41 RBIs and being named First Team All-Pac 12 during his junior season at the University of California.
