66ers Cap Home Schedule with Wild Win

Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers finished their 2015 home schedule with a wild walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth when Kody Eaves delivered a game-tying double and was awarded home when an off-target relay throw went out-of-play giving the Sixers a 2-1 win over the High Desert Mavericks. The win snapped a four-game skid and made Trevor Foss a winner on the mound after four shutout frames of relief work.
The starters for both clubs were excellent. Victor Alcantara tossed five innings for the 66ers and allowed five hits, a walk and tallied one K in a no-decision. His lone run allowed came in the fourth innings when Royce Bolinger tagged the second of his two doubles on the night to open the frame. He eventually scored on a fielder's choice for the only run the Mavs (76-60, 39-27) would score. It was not from a lack of chances; High Desert had leadoff men aboard in five innings and were just 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position and the one hit failed to knock in a run.
David Ledbetter pitched beautifully for the Mavs. The righty handcuffed Inland Empire (61-75, 26-40) for seven shutout frames. He allowed just five hits and did not walk a batter while fanning four. His twin brother Ryan Ledbetter tossed a scoreless eighth.
Trevor Foss (4-2) relieved Alcantara to open the sixth and was masterful. The Janesville, WI native allowed leadoff doubles in the sixth and seventh but worked around them and retired the final nine men he faced in succession. He allowed no walks and struck out three to keep the 66ers deficit at 1-0.
Dakota Watts (0-1) was brought in to close it out in the ninth but was rudely greeted on his first pitch by Mike Fish. The Sixers' left fielder lined his second of two singles on the night to open the frame. Kody Eaves then stepped to the plate. The 66ers eschewed the bunt and let Eaves rip. He lined a ball down the right field line. Fish scored all the way from first base. Ronald Guzman's relay to the plate was errant and sailed into the third base dugout. After conferring, the umpires awarded home plate to Eaves to start a celebration on the field and sent San Manuel's 2015 slate into the history books in style with a 2-1 win.
