Aviators Complete Sweep of Greys

September 4, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Rockford Aviators News Release

LOVES PARK - The Aviators defeated the Frontier Greys to complete the sweep at Aviators Stadium Thursday night, besting the visitors 3-1. Cameron Garfield hit his first homerun of the season for Rockford, and Kyle Brueggemann tossed 8 innings of 1-run ball to earn his 7th victory.

The Aviators used Garfield's early jack to make it a 1-0 lead. The game was delayed for approximately 1 hour in the 4th, but Brueggemann returned to work even after the long break. He surrendered a run in the 6th but settled down to hold the Greys off the rest of the way, notching 7 total strikeouts in the process.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 6th, the Aves got RBI from Brian Bistagne and Justin Fox to score Danny Stienstra and Devon Rodriguez, who led the inning off with singles, and reclaim the lead.

Matt Frahm would pitch a scoreless 9th to earn his 1st save of the year and seal the 48th win for the Aviators.

The team is now in a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots with the Florence Freedom and the Evansville Otters. The Aves head to Joliet for a three-game set to close out the season starting tomorrow at 7:05. Payton Baskette will take the hill for the Aviators.

A live broadcast of the game will be available through rockfordaviators.com.
