Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - Two straight one-run wins had the Clinton LumberKings (18-48, 44-91) in search of their second three game winning streak of the season. But the Beloit Snappers (28-37, 54-81) scored nine unanswered runs, six in the top of the ninth inning as Clinton lost 11-3.

For Clinton starter Jarrett Brown (L, 2-10), it was an up and down night. Brown allowed a pair of runs in his first inning of work and a pair of runs in his final inning. The lefty allowed four earned runs overall on a season high 12 hits, as he picked up his fourth loss of the season vs. the Snappers. Similarly, Beloit starter Heath Fillmyer (W, 3-13) had three good innings and two in which he surrendered at least a run. Fillmyer picked up his second win in three starts vs. Clinton, as he allowed three runs on six hits over five innings.

The Snappers scored two batters into the game vs. Brown. Joe Bennie led off the game with a triple into the power alley in right-center field and scored on Mikey White's RBI single. White later scored on an RBI single by Jose Brizuela as Beloit led 2-0 after half an inning.

Clinton plated a run in the third and then took the lead four batters into the fourth inning. Joe DeCarlo began the fourth with a single and Fillmyer walked Wayne Taylor. A wild pitch moved the runners to second and third base with no outs. Kristian Brito's sacrifice fly to right field tied the game at two, while Chris Mariscal's RBI single put Clinton ahead. That was the final time Clinton scored, as Beloit scored the final nine runs of the game.

Brown walked White with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth, which tied the game at three. Osmer Morales relieved the lefty and gave up the go-ahead sacrifice fly to Argenis Raga. That proved to be the winning run, though Beloit tallied a run in the eighth and then sixth in the ninth.

Beloit sent nine men to the plate in the ninth inning vs. Thyago Vieira and Hawtin Buchanan. Bennie recorded his fifth hit of the game, a two-RBI single off of Vieira, while two batters later, Raga took the righty deep, a three-run home run that made it 10-3 Beloit. Max Kuhn greeted Buchanan with a home run to left field on Buchanan's second pitch, which capped off the scoring for the night.

All nine Beloit starters recorded a hit, while six had multiple hits. Bennie's five hits were a game high, while Raga had a game high five RBIs. Brock Hebert and Austin Cousino each had two hits for Clinton. Beloit set a season high with 19 hits.

The LumberKings will play their final home game of the season Friday night, as the rubber match will feature Clinton lefty Eddie Campbell (2-2, 2.98) and Beloit righty Daniel Gossett (5-12, 4.77). First pitch at Ashford University Field is set for 6:30 CT. The LumberKings broadcast can be heard exclusively on LumberKings.com.
