Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WILMINGTON, Del. (Sept. 3, 2015) - For the first time in three years, the Winston-Salem Dash have earned a Southern Division championship. Thanks to a 5-0 win over Wilmington and Myrtle Beach's 4-2 loss at Potomac on Thursday, the Dash have wrapped up the second-half Southern Division crown.

As a result, Game 1 of the best-of-three Southern Division Championship Series will take place at BB&T Ballpark on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. It will mark the first playoff game in Winston-Salem since the Dash's run to the Mills Cup Finals in 2012.

Tickets for Game 1 are on sale now, and fans can purchase them by clicking here or calling (336) 714-6875.

Winston-Salem (42-22, 72-62) claimed its 11th win over the last 13 games and its seventh sweep of the second half, representing a single-half record in the Dash era (2009-present). The Dash are a league-best 42-22 since the All-Star break and can clinch the best half record since becoming the Dash with two wins in the final four games.

First-rounder Carson Fulmer made his eighth High-A start and limited the Blue Rocks (22-42, 60-74) to just three hits over three frames, during which he struck out four.

Southpaw Brian Clark (10-4) once again thrived in a piggybacking role by scattering five hits in five innings. Over his last seven outings, Clark is 7-0 with a 0.70 earned run average (three earned runs in 38.1 innings). He

Jake Cose finished off the eight-hit shutout with a perfect ninth inning of relief. Clark and Cose combined to set down the final 10 Wilmington hitters of the contest.

Offensively, the Dash seized the lead in the third inning thanks to a Trey Michalczewski run-scoring single for his 75th RBI, which places him second in the Carolina League. Two innings later, Adam Engel tripled and scored on a wild pitch.

Winston's lone multi-run frame came in the sixth when both Nolan Earley and Brett Austin chased home a run on a single and groundout, respectively. Keon Barnum clubbed a towering solo shot, his team-leading ninth of the season, in the eighth to provide the exclamation point.

With a division title in hand, the Dash head to their final stop on this regular season-ending road trip on Friday with the first of four at Frederick. The Dash will send right-hander Brandon Brennan (3-4, 3.88 ERA) to the bump against southpaw Matt Taylor (2-2, 3.64 ERA). First pitch is set for 7 p.m. from Nymeo Field, so pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App.

The #PlayoffDash will begin Wednesday night at BB&T Ballpark with Game 1 of the Southern Division Championship Series against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the CL affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Tickets are available by calling the Dash at (336) 714-6875 or visiting wsdash.com.
