St. Lucie Mets News Release

BRADENTON, Fla. (September 3, 2015) - Junior Sosa club two home runs to lead the Bradenton Marauders to a 4-2 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday at McKechnie Field.

Sosa pulled a solo homer into the right field boardwalk in the fifth off of Scarlyn Reyes to put the Marauders up 2-0. After the Mets scored a run in the top of the seventh, Sosa drove pitch from David Roseboom into the bullpen in right field for a two-run shot that made it 4-1.

Both homers for Sosa came with two outs. Sosa started in center field as a replacement for top prospect Austin Meadows, who was promoted on Wednesday.

The Mets scored their first run on Matt Oberse's RBI double in the seventh. Stefan Sabol drew a two-out walk in the ninth, advanced to second on catcher's indifference and scored on single by Maikis De La Cruz to make it 4-2. Phil Evans then flew out to end the game.

Scarlyn Reyes took the loss for the Mets. He held the Marauders to two runs over six innings. He gave up six hits, including three to the first three batters he faced, and struck out five.

Luis Heredia blanked the Mets for 5.2 innings and got the victory.

Henry Hirsch, Miguel Rosario and Dovydas Neverauskas pieced together the rest of the game for Bradenton out of the bullpen. Neverauskas tossed the ninth and earned his third save.

The Mets only had six hits but they did draw seven walks. Unfortunately for the Mets their offense never came up with the big hit. They went 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position and stranded 13 base runners.

Vinny Siena and Jeff Diehl made their St. Lucie debuts after being promoted from Brooklyn earlier in the day. Siena went 0 for 2 with two walks and scored a run. Diehl went 1 for 4 with a single and two strikeouts. Siena played second and Diehl was the DH.

Jeff McNeil and Victor Cruzado were promoted to Double-A Binghamton earlier in the day.

The win for Bradenton, coupled with Palm Beach's loss to Jupiter, brings the Marauders within a game of the first place Cardinals with three to play. Palm Beach does hold the head-to-head tie breaker so Bradenton has to make up a two-game deficit with three to go.

The Mets (67-68, 32-33) and Marauders (72-63, 40-25) continue their series on Friday at McKechnie. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
