Rascals Have 3 All-Stars, Ard Wins MVP

O'Fallon, MO - The River City Rascals have received five 2015 Postseason Awards. 3B Taylor Ard has been named the Frontier League Most Valuable Player and to the Postseason All-Star Team along with C Josh Ludy and DH Danny Canela. Zach Greco has received recognition as the Head Athletic Trainer of the Year.

Ard, 25, has been named MVP and a Post-Season All-Star for the first time. The third baseman is hitting .303 with 26 homeruns, 75 RBI, and 12 stolen bases in his second season with the Rascals. He was named a Frontier League Mid-Season All-Star in 2014 and 2015 and has never previously won the league MVP. He leads the league in many statistical categories including homeruns, runs (80), doubles (28), extra-base hits (55), total bases (213), and slugging percentage (.614). His RBI total ranks second in the league and his 14 hit by pitches is third. Ard attended Washington State University and was drafted three times. He eventually singed with the Seattle Mariners after they selected him in the seventh round in 2012. He spent two seasons in the Mariners organization before joining the Rascals. After 50 games last year, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected Ard's contract, and he hit .309 with four homers and 17 RBI in 34 games at three different levels. He was named Frontier League Player of the Week for Week 4 this season after homering in five straight games.

Ludy, 25, is in his second year in River City and is batting .268 with 14 homers, 54 RBI, and 12 steals. The catcher is a Post-Season All-Star for the first time after being named a Mid-Season All-Star in 2014 and 2015. He leads all catchers in homers, RBI, and stolen bases. Ludy attended Baylor University and was selected in the eighth round by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2012. The catcher joined the Rascals after two seasons in the Phillies system. The Oakland Athletics purchased Ludy's contract in 2014, and he hit .218 with three homers and five RBI in 17 games in Class A.

Canela, 24, is a Post-Season All-Star after being named to the Mid-Season All-Star team for the first time. The designated hitter has a .284 batting average with 15 homers and 65 RBI. The former catcher hit .360 with 12 homers and 53 RBI in 67 games for the Rascals in 2013. His contract was purchased by the Chicago Cubs in 2014, and he hit .292 with seven homers and 54 RBI in 80 games at two levels. Canela attended North Carolina State University and Lee University. The Detroit Tigers selected him in the 37thround in 2009 out of high school, but he opted to play college ball.

Greco, 23, has been named Head Athletic Trainer of the Year in his first season with the Rascals. The St. Louis area native attended North Park University and played college football.

The Rascals have four regular season games remaining and have already clinched a playoff berth.
