Walleye Add Two College Forwards, Trade Goaltender

Toledo, OH - Forwards Max Gaede and Tyler Sikura have agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2015-16 season.

Gaede spent the last four years at Minnesota State Mankato where he appeared in 152 games with 37 points (11G, 26A) and 93 penalty minutes. Drafted by San Jose in the 3rd round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, the 23-year-old forward helped lead the Mavericks to back to back WCHA Championships in 2013-2015. He was a member of the 2012-13 WCHA All-Academic Team.

"Max was part of turning around Minnesota Mankato into an elite program," Head Coach Derek Lalonde said. "His ability to play the game the right way will fit right into our locker-room.

The 6'3" 200-pound forward picked up a career five goals this past season while finishing the season as a plus 10. Prior to his collegiate career, Gaede spent parts of two seasons in the USHL with Sioux Falls. In the 2010-11 season the native of Woodbury, Minnesota posted 10 goals, 18 assists and 57 penalty minutes in 54 contests.

Sikura made his pro debut following his senior season with Springfield in the AHL with a pair of games. Over four years with the Big Green, the Aurora, Ontario native appeared in 125 games with 36 goals and 56 assists while posting a plus nine rating. He was the team captain in each of the past two seasons.

"Tyler had a very significant career at Dartmouth and was a captain," Lalonde said. "He is a very versatile player that will contribute in every situation for us."

The 23-year-old posted a career-best 32 points with highs in goals (12) and assists (20) during the 2012-13 season. His 32 points led the Big Green in scoring that season and his 24 points (10G, 14A) this past year finished second the team. As a freshman in 2011-12, the 6'2", 195-pound forward tied for the team lead in scoring with 25 points (11G, 14A).

NOTE: In a separate transaction, the Walleye sent goaltender Neil Conway to the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for a future consideration. Conway had a record of 11-4-4 with a 2.09 goals against average and .928 save percentage.
