September 3, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods) News Release

Rochester, Minn. - Former La Crosse Loggers pitcher, Scott Alexander, made his Major League debut for the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. Alexander is the 136th former Northwoods League player to reach the Major League level.

Alexander, who played collegiately at Sonoma State University, pitched for the La Crosse Loggers in 2008. Alexander was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 6th round of the 2010 MLB draft.

In 2008 with the Loggers, Alexander was 2-4 with a 4.44 ERA in 10 appearances. He also struck out 38 batters in 46.2 innings pitched.

Alexander started his Minor League career in 2010 with the Idaho Falls Chukars in the Rookie level Pioneer League. He appeared in 12 games and was 1-6 with a 5.73 ERA. He did however have 41 strikeouts in 55 innings pitched.

After a lost 2011 season due to shoulder surgery, Alexander spent time between two teams in 2012. He appeared in one game with the Royals Rookie team in the Arizona League before finishing out the season in the Lo-A Midwest League with the Kane County Cougars. He went a combined 2-4 with a 2.52 ERA while striking out 31 batters in 35.2 innings pitched.

After being with two teams in 2012 Alexander was with three different teams for the 2013 season. He started in the Lo-A South Atlantic League with the Lexington Legends before a promotion to the Hi-A Wilmington Blue Rocks in the Carolina League. After 12 games with Wilmington he was moved up to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in the AA Texas League. For the year he went 5-1 with a 3.00 ERA and struck out 77 batters in 75 innings.

During the 2014 season Alexander again split time between two teams. He began the year with Northwest Arkansas. After 35 games he was promoted to the Omaha Storm Chasers in the AAA Pacific Coast League. Between AA and AAA he was a combined 2-4 with a 4.52 ERA over 46 games.

Before his September call-up Alexander had been in Omaha for the entire 2015 season. In 41 appearances he was 2-3 with a 2.56 ERA. He also had 50 strikeouts in 63.1 innings.

In his Major League debut against the Tigers, Alexander entered in relief in the top of the ninth inning. After getting former Alexandria Beetle Bryan Holaday to ground out he retired Victor Martinez on a ground out to third before striking out Nick Castellanos to end the game.
