Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA: The Inland Empire 66ers jumped to a 3-0 start against the High Desert Mavericks on Wednesday but Mavs' starter Dallas Gallant and the bullpen held the Sixers down for a 5-4 comeback effort. The 66ers fell for the fourth straight game and 17th time in their last 19 games.

Bo Way opened the bottom of the first by smacking a triple, his ninth, off the top of the wall in right center. He came home on Roberto Baldoquin's sac fly to make it 1-0. The 66ers (60-75, 25-40) loaded the bases with two outs and Caleb Adams drilled a two run single off Gallant to make it 3-0. Gallant (1-1) would settle down over the next four innings and allowed just two more hits in his five frames of work. He retired the final nine batters he faced in succession and struck out eight men with no walks in his outing.

The Mavericks answered with two unearned runs in the top of the second inning. With a man aboard and two down a 66ers' error extended the inning and Chris Garia tripled in two runners on IE starter Jordan Kipper's very next pitch. The Mavericks (76-59, 38-27) made it 4-3 against Kipper (6-12) in his five inning outing with lone RBI in the fourth by Kevin Torres on a triple and Joe Jackson in the fifth on single.

The Mavs led 5-3 in the sixth when the 66ers cut the deficit to 5-4 against southpaw reliever Felix Carvallo. Wade Wass singled and eventually scored on Quinten Davis' RBI single to right field. The 66ers would not score again. Carvallo tossed a scoreless seventh while Anyelo Leclerc and John Fasola were perfect in the eighth and ninth. Fasola picked up his sixth save of the year.

The 66ers' home schedule concludes on Thursday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
