Osprey Slam Way to Victory

Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

MISSOULA, MONT. - Fresh off being named Arizona Diamondbacks Minor League Player of the Month, shortstop Isan Diaz belted the first Osprey grand slam of the 2015 season, sending the first pitch he saw from Matt Ball over the wall in right field to highlight a six-run second inning and help Missoula (40-28) to an 8-1 victory over Great Falls (32-36) from Ogren Park Allegiance Field on Wednesday night.

While Diaz' homer added thunder to the inning, Raymel Flores got the frame off to a great start, hammering his third home run in as many games over the wall in right on the first pitch of the stanza to break a 1-1 tie.

Following the six-run second, the game turned into a pitchers duel, as neither team plated a run until the bottom of the eighth when the O's tacked on one final tally on an RBI-single from Joey Armstrong.

Bo Takahashi was credited with the victory and moved to 8-1 on the year after dealing 5.0 innings and allowing one run on five hits and two walks. His eight victories are the most in the Pioneer League.

Missoula's bullpen was outstanding down the stretch in sealing the victory, as Dallas Newton, Austin Mason, Matt Lees and Gabriel Moya each tossed a scoreless inning of relief. A one-out hit batter from Newton in the sixth was the only blemish over the final four innings, as the quartet combined for six strikeouts.

Ball, who was charged with seven runs on five hits and three walks over 1.2 innings, was tagged with the loss and fell to 2-8 on the year.

In addition to the big swing from Diaz, Missoula received two-hit nights from Jason Morozowski and Kal Simmons. Morozowski collected a triple in the bottom of the first before scoring the first run of the game, while Simmons also scored one run on the Diaz grand slam.

The Osprey will continue the four-game home series with Great Falls tomorrow at 7:05 pm MT.
