Ji-Man Choi Pushes Rainiers Past Salt Lake, 13-6

SALT LAKE CITY -- Ji-Man Choi's four-RBI night fueled the Tacoma Rainiers to a 13-6 win over the Salt Lake Bees at Smith's Ballpark on Wednesday night.

Choi drove in his first run and broke open a 2-2 tie in the top of the fourth with an RBI single that plated Patrick Kivlehan. The first baseman later broke open a 4-4 tie in the sixth with a three-run double that put Tacoma on top for good after scoring James Jones, Jesus Montero, and Mike Zunino.

Montero, in his first game since being optioned to Tacoma earlier in the day, ended the night 3-for-4 with three singles, including a two-RBI base hit that capped off a four-run inning in the eighth. Kivlehan delivered a two-RBI double in the seventh that helped him seal a 2-for-4 effort.

Zunino gave the Rainiers a 1-0 lead after hitting an RBI single in the first inning. He has now hit safely in each of his first five games since joining Tacoma's roster on August 28, and is batting .450 (9x20) with four doubles and six RBI.

Reliever Lucas Luetge collected the win after holding Bees batters to one run on three hits and striking out four through 2.2 innings of work. James Paxton surrendered two runs on five hits through 3.0 innings. The left-hander fanned two without issuing a walk in his third MLB rehab start with the Rainiers.

The Rainiers (66-73) look to earn a series split in the fourth and final game of a four-game set at Salt Lake (56-83) tomorrow, September 3. Right-hander Forrest Snow (10-8, 4.11) is scheduled to start for Tacoma. The Bees are expected to start left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes (3-4, 5.56) First pitch is scheduled to start 6:05 p.m.
