Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

St. Paul, MN September 2, 2015 - The Gary South Shore RailCats started fast with a 4-0 lead but faded in the end as the St. Paul Saints scored 10 unanswered runs, all with two outs, to take game two of the series 10-4 Wednesday night at CHS Field in St. Paul.

The South Shore scored in the first with Brennen Metzger and Adam Taylor at first and second followed by an RBI single off the bat of Dustin Geiger. His single to center off of Saints starter Robert Coe scored Metzger and it was 1-0. The RailCats looked like they were going to roll to victory in the second when Michael Vaughn doubled to start the inning. Spencer Mahoney followed with a single to left and the RailCats were in business with runners at the corners.

Jarred Mederos then pushed a bunt down the first base line to score Vaughn from third to make it 2-0. Jon Jones then followed with a sacrifice bunt and moved the runners to second and third. With Brennen Metzger at the plate Coe uncorked a wild pitch to score Mahoney and it was 3-0. Metzger then flew out to center for out number two. Adam Taylor would make sure the Cats did not leave a runner as he singled to right to make it 4-0.

The RailCats had given Rene Solis an early cushion and he responded by working the first two inning scoreless. When the Saints came up for the third time things unraveled fast. Solis retired Willie Argo on a fly to center and then walked Anthony Phillips. Solis then got out number two by striking out Dan Kaczrowski. The RailCats were one out away from a scoreless inning but Ryan Cavan singled to put runners at first and second. David Espinosa followed with a single to left to score Kaczrowski and it was 4-1. Vinny DiFazio then launched a deep ball off the wall in center to score two more and it was 4-3.

The Saints were not done and would tie the game next on a soft flair to left that just fell between left short and third to tie the game at four. Ian Gac would then give St. Paul the 5-4 lead with a double down the right field line to score Songco. Solis then got the third out but the Saints had erased the 4-0 deficit.

The Saints added three runs in the fourth off of Solis getting another RBI from DiFazio and Espinosa another run coming home on a wild pitch to make it 8-4. They scored two more in the fifth on one of the wilder plays of the season.

Ryan Lashley singled with one out and was pinch run for by Alonso Harris. Wille Argo then struck out for out number two. Solis then hit Anthony Phillips with a pitch. Kaczrowski then drove in Harris and then was caught in a run down between first and second. The RailCats committed an error on the run down with second baseman's Alex Hernandez throw to Geiger bouncing away that would allow Phillips to race home. But then the RailCats got Kaczowski in another run down for out number three after the run scored.

Robert Coe (11-3) would settle down and work seven innings allowing the four earned runs to earn the win. Rene Solis (4-7) gave up ten runs with nine being earned in the loss. The RailCats lost for the fifth straight time matching the longest losing streak of the season. The two teams will play game three of the series Thursday night at 7:05pm. RHP Charle Rosario (12-7, 3.74) will go for Gary South Shore, while St. Paul will send out LHP Kramer Sneed (14-3, 3.00). The game can be hear in progress on 95.9 WEFM and in its entirety on RailCatsBaseball.com.
