Paniagua, Patterson, Perez Power Offense as Revs Pound Sharks

September 2, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

Salvador Paniagua blasted a pair of home runs and Frank Gailey turned in another stellar performance as the York Revolution smoked the Camden Riversharks 9-2 on Wednesday night at Santander Stadium, evening their series at one win apiece. The Revs will look to win the rubber match on Thursday night and continue their playoff push before welcoming the Bridgeport Bluefish to town for the weekend.

Paniagua led a potent attack, going 4-for-4 with two homers and five RBI, while Eric Patterson also went 4-for-4 at the plate in the big win.

The Revs struggled to solve Riversharks rookie lefty Jeff Singer in the first two innings, as the southpaw recorded all five of his strikeouts over his first five outs of the contest.

Paniagua opened the scoring in the bottom of the third, drilling a solo shot to left-center for a 1-0 York lead.

The Revs backstop did it again two innings later, after Telvin Nash led off with a double past the diving attempt of center fielder Daniel Rockett, launching a moonshot two-run homer over the Arch Nemesis in left to give York a 3-0 lead. The two-homer game was the seventh of his pro career and second all-time with York.

Andres Perez belted a solo shot to left-center leading off the home sixth, taking sole possession of the league lead with his 70th RBI of the season. Later in the inning, Nash singled to right-center with one out, and sprinted all the way from first to score on a throwing error by third baseman Michael Rockett, attempting to throw out Paniagua on an infield single as the lead grew to 5-0.

The Revs turned it into a laugher with four runs in the seventh. Patterson worked a leadoff walk to open things while Brandon Boggs followed with a single to center. Perez then drove in the first run on a single to right, raising his RBI total to 71 on the season. Bryan Pounds drew a walk to load the bases and with one out, Paniagua hammered a line drive high off the Arch Nemesis for a two-run single, putting an exclamation point on his massive night. James Simmons added a sac fly on a line drive to right to increase the lead to 9-0.

Gailey (4-3) retired his first ten batters of the night and took a one-hitter into the seventh while the offense was piling up its totals. Gailey then took a two-hit shutout into the eighth before the Sharks scored twice to break up the blanking, but it was a dominant outing nonetheless as the lefty whiffed eight batters and allowed just four hits and two walks.

Daniel Rockett broke up the shutout with a homer to left-center leading off the eighth, while Zach MacPhee provided an RBI single to right following Gailey's exit. Reliever Stephen Penney set down the next three batters after being greeted by MacPhee's single, however, and Edward Paredes retired the side in order in the ninth to close out the convincing win.

The Revs snap a three-game skid with the win, improving to 28-23 in the second half.

Notes: Paniagua's last multi-homer game came on May 29, 2011 at Bridgeport. It is the Revs' fifth multi-homer game by a batter this season. Paniagua's four hits and five RBI establish single-game career-highs with the Revs. Patterson's four-hit game is his second of the season. The Revs have won six straight starts by Gailey, who picks up his first win since August 8 vs. Southern Maryland. Each of Gailey's last four starts resulted in no-decisions in extra-inning victories for the Revs. York righty Cody Scarpetta (1-4, 4.47) makes his home debut for the Revs on Thursday, facing Camden southpaw Bill Murphy (5-14, 4.82) with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
