September 2, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Staten Island Yankees News Release
Battling for a spot in the New York-Penn League playoffs, the Staten Island Yankees (37-33) got a much needed dominant performance out of starting pitcher Domingo Acevedo (W, 3-0), shutting down the Tri-City ValleyCats (39-31), 3-0.
Acevedo came out slinging heat, tossing six innings of shutout ball, striking out 8 batters. Reliever Jonny Drozd (SV, 2) followed behind Acevedo, throwing three shutout innings to pick up the save.
Staten Island got all the runs they needed in the fourth inning. Ryan Krill, who went 3-for-4, hit a double to right field then scored on a Thairo Estrada single. Zack Zehner singled later in the inning, driving home Estrada for a 2-0 lead.
The Yankees added one more insurance run in the eighth inning. Kevin Cornelius singled to get things going then scored on Valera's second RBI of the game.
The two teams face off again Thursday night at 7 p.m. for Thirsty Thursday featuring $1 domestic draft beers as the Baby Bombers fight for their spot in the NYPL playoffs.
