Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters and Michael Nix claimed a rain-shortened game over the Somerset Patriots with a 5-1 win at Constellation Field on Wednesday. The win bolsters the Skeeters record to 23-29 in the second half and 59-63.

Michael Nix was almost unhittable in six innings of work. In his first start back with the Skeeters, the right-hander scattered one hit and a walk with five strikeouts to earn his second complete game victory in Sugar Land. R.J. Seidel was saddled with the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits with a walk and a strikeout over 5.0 innings on the rubber.

The Skeeters offense was clicking on all cylinders in the top of the second, plating all five runs against Seidel to take the lead. Following a two quick outs, Renny Osuna drew a walk to extend the inning and came around to score on a double to the right-center alley from Denny Almonte to break the scoring seal. Amadeo Zazueta, Jeff Dominguez, Travis Scott and Delwyn Young notched a single, double, single and double, respectively, to push the lead to 5-0.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Sugar Land was hit with an unexpected downpour, leading to a brief rain delay before the game was eventually called due to unplayable field conditions.
