Schaumburg, IL - The Wild Things and Boomers faced off in a pitchers' duel Wednesday afternoon at Schaumburg Boomers' Stadium. Washington eventually fell 5-2.

Neither team garnered a hit in the three and a half innings of baseball. In the bottom of the third, Kyle Ruchim blasted a solo homerun to get on the board for Schaumburg. Washington answered in the fifth inning with its own solo shot when David Popkins belted one out of the park.

Washington reignited the scoring in the eighth inning when Cody Herald hit an RBI single to drive in Matt Peters who led the inning off with a double. Schaumburg regained the lead in the bottom of the frame with four runs.

Steve Messner suffered the loss for Washington, allowing four runs on four hits, walking one and striking out one in one and two thirds innings. Starter Jon Klein allowed one run on four hits, walking three and striking out two.

Washington and Schaumburg conclude the series Thursday evening when first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Air time on msasports.net and WJPA 95.3 FM is 7:20 EDT. Washington returns to CONSOL Energy Park Friday for their final series of the 2015 season when they host the Windy City Thunderbolts.
