Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON - What better way to celebrate your birthday than to score a goal. Fury FC forward Oliver did just that Saturday night at TD Place bringing the 6,000+ in attendance to their feet when he gave Ottawa a 2-0 lead with his first goal of the season. On Wednesday, the NASL announced the NASL Team of the Week that included Ottawa's Brazilian striker who also had an impressive match mid-week in the 0-0 draw against the New York Cosmos.
After leading Fury FC in scoring in the club's inaugural season, Oliver missed six straight games due to injury and was subsequently injured in his return against Minnesota in July. The Brazilian striker has featured in each of the last nine matches and with his confidence growing it was only a matter of time before Oliver would strike. On Saturday, just a minute after Oliver subbed into the match his compatriot Paulo Junior netted his first goal of the season and first in Fury colours. Thirteen minutes later Tom Heinemann powered his way through the Rowdies defence and picked out Oliver who rifled a low shot into the bottom right corner. While the Rowdies came back to steal victory from Ottawa, Fury FC earned another valuable point with the 2-2 draw maintaining their lead atop the NASL Fall Season standings with a 6W-3D-1L record.
Fury FC begin the final half of the NASL Fall Season with seven of their ten remaining games coming on the road. Ottawa carry a five-game unbeaten streak (2W-3D-0L) with them on the road to San Antonio this weekend and will next return to TD Place on September 12 when they host the Fort Lauderdale Strikers as part of #IHeartSoccer weekend. Fans have the opportunity to win club seats, field access and Fury FC merchandise to the match by taking to Twitter and sharing why they love the game using the #IHeartSoccer hashtag. Tickets to the September 12 match are available at OttawaFuryFC.com.
