Black Bears Drop Two out of Three against Batavia

West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The West Virginia Black Bears were defeated two out of three games in a series against the Batavia Muckdogs on the road at Dwyer Stadium. West Virginia lost the first game 8-5 on Sunday, August 30. On Monday, August 31, the Black Bears fell to the Muckdogss 5-4 before winning the series finale 9-0 on Tuesday, September 1. The Black Bears now have an overall record of 37-33 and sit 0.5 games out of the Wild Card race, with the State College Spikes hanging on to the first place position.
August 30 - Black Bears fall to Batavia 8-5
West Virginia received two RBI from C Daniel Arribas while SS Erik Forgione, LF Ryan Nagle and 2B Mitchell Tolman all finished the night with two hits apiece in Sunday's loss. 1B Carlos Munoz blasted his first home run as a member of the Black Bears after being called up from Bristol this week. SP Brandon Waddell received the loss after tossing 4.0 innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits.
August 31 - West Virginia loses to Scrappers 5-4 in thriller
DH Daniel Arribas had a big night at the plate for the second game in a row, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI. 2B Mitchell Tolman also finished the game going 2-for-4, with an RBI on a sacrifice fly. RP Cesilio Pimentel was saddled with the loss after pitching 3.0 innings out of the bullpen but improved his team-leading strikeout total to 58 this season. RP Julio Eusebio tossed the final 2.0 innings, putting up scoreless frames with three strikeouts.
September 1 - Black Bears claim series finale in shutout fashion, take down Muckdogs 9-0
2B Mitchell Tolman continued to stay hot after collecting two RBI and going 3-for-4 at the dish. CF Casey Hughston and SS Erik Forgione were hot on Tuesday night as well, both having a 3-for-5 night with an RBI apiece. SP Luis Escobar made his Black Bears debut and looked impressing after tossing 3.0 shutout innings. RP Tanner Anderson collected his first win as a Black Bear (1-0) out of the bullpen, pitching 2.0 shutout innings. RP Sean Keselica and Daniel Zamora combined to pitch the final 3.0 innings, shutting out Batavia to secure the win.

The Black Bears now return home to Monongalia County Ballpark beginning Wednesday, September 2 to begin the last home series of the season.
