Milbrath Shuts Down Dragons

(Dayton, OH) -Jordan Milbrath dominated the Dayton Dragons over seven innings of work on Tuesday night to earn his fourth straight win. After the Captains fell behind 1-0 in the fourth inning, the offense would come alive in the sixth inning with three runs to grab the lead for good. The Captains added two more runs over the final three innings to top the Dragons 5-1.

Milbrath sailed through the first three innings before giving up the first run of the game. In the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs, Aristides Aquino connected on a solo homerun for a 1-0 lead.

Jordan quickly bounced back and shut down the dragons for the next three innings as he would only allow three more runners to reach base.

The Captains offense would take the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Steven Patterson started the inning with a double to leftfield. Patterson would move to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ordomar Valdez. After Greg Allen reached on a walk, Francisco Mejia would drive in Patterson with a sacrifice fly to tie the game 1-1. Anthony Santander would then walk to put runners at first and second. Bobby Bradley followed with a two run double to rightfield to score both Allen and Santander to give the Captains a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh inning the Captains would add an insurance run. Taylor Murphy doubled to open the inning. He would move to third on a deep fly out to centerfield by Yu-Cheng Chang. Murphy would then come in to score on a sacrifice fly from Silento Sayles to push the Captains lead out to 4-1.

The Captains would put the game away with another insurance run it the top of the ninth inning. Once again it was Murphy starting the inning. He would draw his second walk of the game. Murphy would come around to score without the offense having to do anymore work as the Dragons would send Murphy home thanks to three wild pitches in the inning.

Milbrath (7-10) earned his fourth straight win with 7.0 innings of work. He allowed 1 earned run on 4 hits. Milbrath walked 3 and struck out 6. Caleb Hamrick (3) earned a hold with 1.0 inning of relief. He allowed 2 hits and struck out 1. Luke Eubank finished the game with 1.0 inning of relief. Eubank walked 1 and struck out 3.

The Captains will now head to Bowling Green, KY to start their final road series of the regular season. The three game set with the Hotrods will start Wednesday night with Sean Brady on the mound. First pitch is set for 8:05pm ET and can be heard on 1330AM WINT.
