U19 World Lacrosse Challenge Adopts Bowhunter Cup

In less than two weeks, the world's best, young lacrosse players will descend on the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena to compete in the inaugural U19 World Lacrosse Challenge. With the international lacrosse community coming to Six Nations from Sept. 11-13, it was only appropriate that the organizers selected the Bowhunter Cup as the championship trophy for the event.

The Bowhunter Cup has a history in international lacrosse, as it served as the centerpiece for an annual game between the Iroquois Nationals and an American squad. Ironically, it was last raised at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in 2013 when the Iroquois won its third Cup in four years. The Bowhunter Cup is named after Wake:Riat "Bo" Bowhunter and Rato:Rats "Hunter" Bowhunter, who are the sons of Rochester Knighthawks' owner and general manager Curt Styres.

"The passion and enthusiasm surrounding this event has been overwhelming," said World Lacrosse Challenge director Gewas Schindler. "I am pleased to formally announce the U19 World Lacrosse Challenge will be hosted by the Six Nations community this September. This unique and exciting event has been rebranded to further emphasize its worldwide diversity, as well as the competitive and independent nature of the Challenge, which features several strong new entrants."

The Iroquois, USA, Canada, Israel, Czech Republic, Nordic and Germany are among the 12 countries that are represented at the WLC Bowhunter Cup. For additional information or to access the schedule, fans can go online to www.worldlacrossechallenge.com.
