Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON (Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015) - Four Houston Dynamo players - Giles Barnes, Boniek García, Luis Garrido and Erick Torres - have been called up by their national teams for this weekend's international games. The players have joined their teams and are scheduled to be back with the Dynamo to prepare for the club's next game versus Real Salt Lake on Sept. 12 at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Barnes joins Jamaica for its two-leg 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying series against Nicaragua. CONCACAF is in the third round of qualifying for the 2018 tournament, with 12 countries competing in two-leg series on Sept. 4 and Sept. 8. The six winners advance to the fourth round, joining six already-qualified nations in three groups.
Jamaica will host the first leg at 8 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 4 at Kingston's Independence Park. The second leg will be held at 8:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Estadio Nacional Dennis Martínez in Managua. Barnes has three goals in 11 appearances with Jamaica after making his Reggae Boyz debut in March. The Dynamo attacker started all six games and scored twice as Jamaica reached its first CONCACAF Gold Cup final in July.
García and Garrido join the Honduras national team for two friendly matches - Friday at Venezuela and Tuesday at Ecuador, a rematch of their meeting in the group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. García has 99 caps for Los Catrachos while Garrido has made 30 appearances for his country.
Torres was called into the Mexico Under-22 national team for three friendly matches. The U-22s will face Liga MX clubs Pumas UNAM (Sept. 4) and Cruz Azul (Sept. 8) in Mexico City and the Panama U-22s on Sept. 6. The Dynamo forward excelled with the Mexico U-21s last November, scoring five goals in four games at the Central American and Caribbean Games, including two goals in the championship match. Torres, 22, also has made four appearances and scored one goal with the Mexico national team.
The Dynamo are off this weekend due to international matches and next host Real Salt Lake on Sept. 12 at BBVA Compass Stadium. For tickets, visit www.HoustonDynamo.com or call 713-276-GOAL.
