Brewster Bulldogs News Release

At only 28 years old, former Danbury Whalers captain David Lun is still very much in his prime as a hockey player. However, when the opportunity came along to be the first head coach for the Federal Hockey League's Brewster Bulldogs expansion team, the Michigan native and former UMass Boston star didn't hesitate to take the job.

After a five-year professional playing career spent almost entirely in the FHL, Lun decided to change his career path and take his first pro coaching gig. The Bulldogs will play their home games at the Brewster Ice Arena.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity," Lun said Tuesday. "It just seems like a natural progression. I've been in the league for a few years. I've seen it in its good and its bad times. I always knew someday I would get into coaching, but I never realized it would be so soon. But this opportunity came along and I jumped at it."

Certainly, there would have been opportunities for Lun to keep playing. In 94 games for the Whalers over two seasons, the 5-foot-10, 200-pound forward registered 64 points and 145 penalty minutes.

"It's funny how life kind of goes," Lun said. "Some things got in the way and led to other things. I've got a lot of bills on my plate and whatnot, and playing hockey wasn't really doing it anymore. I kind of had to man-up and face reality. This opportunity came along and I saw perhaps a brighter, more sustainable future in coaching further down the line than continuing to play in the 'Iron Leagues' and stuff like that.
