Perfect preseason for Islanders

Charlottetown Islanders News Release

David Henley scored the game-winner as the Islanders took their second game against the Quebec Remparts in the Magdalen Islands by a score of 4-3.

It gives the Islanders a perfect 5-0 record through their preseason games.

Brad Kennedy got the scoring going on the team's first power play, giving the Islanders a 1-0 lead at the 14:41 mark. Kameron Kielly and Filip Chlapik drew assists on the goal.

Before the period was over, Oliver Cooper extended the Isles' lead with his first of the preseason, assisted by Kennedy and Dexter Weber.

The Remparts pulled back in the second period, and shortly after a penalty to Mitchell Balmas had expired, they got on the board thanks to a goal from Matthew Boucher. Five minutes later, things were all tied up as Massimo Carozza made it 2-2 at the 12:28 mark.

The Isles grabbed the lead back later in the period with an unassisted goal from Shawn Boudrias, but just 15 seconds later things were square again as Justin Samson pulled Quebec even.

A shot from the point by David Henley found its way into the back of the net three minutes into the third period and turned out to be enough for the Islanders to hold onto the lead. Alex Goulet pulled the assist on the goal.

Matthew Welsh took the net for Charlottetown and stopped 26 of 29 pucks that came his way. In the Quebec goal, Julian Galloway stopped 20 of 24.

The Islanders' special teams were strong once again, with the power play going 1-for-3 and the penalty kill denying all six of Quebec's chances. The Isles finished the preseason with a 88.9% rate on the penalty kill and a league-leading 32.1% success rate on the power play.

With the preseason complete, the excitement gets underway in a little less than two weeks. The Isles open their season Sept. 11 against the Halifax Mooseheads at the Eastlink Centre.
