Somerset Patriots Sign INF/OF Matt Fields

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have signed infielder/outfielder Matt Fields.

Fields has experience in the Tampa Bay Rays, Kansas City Royals and Arizona Diamondbacks organizations, reaching as high as Triple-A during two seasons (2014, 2015). He also has played four seasons at the Double-A level.

Earlier this season, Fields split time between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Omaha in the Royals organization, logging 47 hits, 13 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI in 61 games.

In 2013 and 2014, he hit a combined 59 home runs with 168 RBI and 46 doubles between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha. Fields led the Texas League (Double-A) with home runs (31) and was third in RBI (87) in 2013. The next season, he finished third in home runs (28) and 10th in RBI (81) in the Pacific Coast League (Triple-A).

In 2012, Fields hit a combined .274 with 101 hits, 18 doubles, 26 home runs and 65 RBI for Southern Illinois (Frontier League) and High-A Wilmington (Carolina League).

Fields has 938 hits, 200 doubles, 14 triples, 190 home runs and 630 RBI over 1,045 minor league games.

Fields will be active for the series-opener in Sugar Land on Tuesday evening. To make room for Fields, the Somerset Patriots have released infielder Mat Gamel.

The 2015 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford is winding down with one more regular season home stand scheduled for Tuesday, September 8th through Sunday, September 13th. The Somerset Patriots will then battle for their sixth Atlantic League Championship in the Playoffs beginning at home on Friday, September 25th.
