Glaesmann, Jokisch Win Penultimate Weekly Accolades

August 31, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Pacific Coast League has announced that Todd Glaesmann of the Reno Aces and Eric Jokisch of the Iowa Cubs have been named the PCL Player and Pitcher of the Week for August 24-31.

Todd Glaesmann collected a league-best nine doubles this week, becoming the first PCL player in the last ten seasons to record that many two-base hits in a single week. The centerfielder also held PCL-highs in hits (17), extra-base hits (12), total bases (35), and batting average (.586). He hit safely in all seven games he played, while compiling nine runs scored, three home runs, and eight RBI. Glaesmann tied a club record Wednesday by hitting three doubles during Reno's 11-5 win over Nashville. He led the Aces to another victory Friday over Memphis, as he was responsible for four of the six runs Reno scored that night. Glaesmann, who made his Triple-A debut on May 29, is batting .301 with 14 home runs and 25 doubles this season with the Aces.

The 24-year-old from Waco, Texas is in his second season in the Arizona Diamondbacks' farm system. Glaesmann was acquired by the Diamondbacks in a trade from the Tampa Bay Rays on Dec. 13, 2013. The Rays originally selected him in the third round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Midway High School in Hewitt, Texas. The Player of the Week honor is the second of his career, with his previous coming in April while he was playing for the Visalia Rawhide in the California League.

Eric Joksich won both of his starts this week, while holding the opposition to a .140 batting average, the lowest among pitchers with two starts. The left-hander pitched 13 innings during the week, including 12 scoreless frames for a 0.69 ERA. He and two of his teammates combined for a one-hit shutout Monday against Fresno. Jokisch went six innings that day, retiring 18 of the 20 batters he faced. He followed up that performance with a seven-inning complete game, coming Saturday in a doubleheader vs. Sacramento. Jokisch limited the River Cats to five hits and one walk in the game, and he did not allow a run until the final inning. The Illinois native now owns a 5-3 record and 3.94 ERA this season with the I-Cubs.

Jokisch, 26, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 11th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He made his MLB debut with Chicago last season, appearing in four games for the Cubs. This is the third Pitcher of the Week award he has received in his career and his first since he was a member of the Tennessee Smokies in the Southern League in 2013.
