Darnell Names Batavia Downs Player of the Week

Rochester Red Wings pitcher Logan Darnell has been named the Batavia Downs Gaming and Racetrack Player of the Week for the period of Aug. 24-30, and the International League Pitcher of the Week for the same period. Darnell is the League-leading ninth Red Wings player to be so honored in 2015, joining Pat Dean (2x), Tommy Milone (2x), Tyler Duffey, Oswaldo Arcia, Reynaldo Rodriguez, and Byron Buxton.
Darnell won two times this week and led the League with 17.0 innings pitched and 17 strikeouts. Monday night at Syracuse, Darnell tossed a five-hit shutout, taking a perfect game into the 6th frame and a no-hitter into the 7th as Rochester topped the Chiefs 9-0. Darnell was nearly as impressive Saturday evening back home against Pawtucket, this time allowing just one run on five hits over 8.0 innings. The 5-1 victory was his third in a row. Since joining the starting rotation on August 13, Darnell has allowed just two earned runs on 14 hits in 28.0 innings of work.
