For the second straight game Sunday night, the Tulsa Drillers lost despite taking an early lead. The Drillers scored a pair of third-inning runs to jump in front, but it was their only offensive output of the night as the Springfield Cardinals rallied for a 4-2 win at ONEOK Field. The loss left Tulsa five games behind first-place Arkansas in the North Division standings of the Texas League with only eight games remaining in the regular season.

The loss spoiled the return of starting pitcher Jeremy Kehrt. The Drillers activated Kehrt from the disabled list to make his first start since August 5, and he cruised through his three-inning appearance. He allowed only one hit and needed only 36 pitches to work three shutout innings.

Tulsa took a 2-0 lead with its third-inning uprising. Singles by Jeremy Rathjen, Brandon Trinkwon and Erisbel Arruebarrena produced the first run. Trinkwon pulled off a rare steal of home to account for the second run.

Jairo Heredia came on in relief for the Drillers and struggled through a difficult fourth, equaling Kehrt's 36-pitch effort just to get through the inning. Heredia gave up two hits and issued three walks as the Cardinals scored twice to tie the game at 2-2.

Springfield went in front with two more runs in the top of the fifth. A two-out, two-run single by Mike Ohlman plated both runs.

The Drillers were never able to cut into the Cards' lead as a trio of Springfield relievers blanked them over the final six innings.

Tulsa used a total of seven pitchers in the game.

The Drillers and Cardinals will conclude their three-game series Monday night at ONEOK Field. Ross Stripling (3-5, 3.65 ERA) will take the mound for Tulsa, while Corey Baker (5-5, 4.44 ERA) will pitch for Springfield. Starting time is scheduled for 7:05PM.
