After a scoreless first inning by Wings starter Dean, his offense provided immediate run support. James Beresford and Danny Santana both singled with one out against PawSox starter Shawn Haviland, and Kennys Vargas followed with a long, high home run for a 3-0 lead. It was the sixth homer of the season for Vargas, in his 37th game with Rochester.

The Wings put on a show on the defensive side as well. Oswaldo Arcia made an over-the-shoulder sliding catch to record the first out of the fourth inning. Beresford provided more defensive fireworks on the next ball hit into play, as he made an acrobatic diving catch on a hard-hit line drive.

Eric Fryer led off the fourth with a double, and Arcia reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Aaron Hicks, here on a rehab assignment and got his first hit in a Red Wings uniform since July 2, hitting a hard ground ball past the third baseman and driving in Fryer. The Wings led 4-0 at the end of the fourth.

The Wings got themselves into a scoring situation again in the fifth. Reynaldo Rodriguez reached base for the first time after being walked. During the next at-bat, Rodriguez stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. After another walk, this one issued to Danny Ortiz, Fryer grounded into a force out, allowing Rodriguez to score.

While the Wings continued to add onto their lead, Dean continued to keep Pawtucket off of the scoreboard. After allowing a base hit to lead off the game, Dean pitched four no-hit innings before allowing his second hit of the game with one out in the sixth. Two batters later, Pawtucket got into scoring position for the first time of the afternoon. With runners on first and second and two outs, Carlos Rivero singled on a hard-hit ball to left field, but Rodriguez came up big, making the throw home and throwing out Pawtucket's first potential run of the game.

After a rough outing, Haviland saw his day come to an end after the fifth inning. Haviland pitched five innings, allowing nine hits, five runs (four earned), and three walks, while striking out three. Haviland threw 98 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Keith Couch took over in for Haviland, and after a one-two-three inning in the sixth, the Wings loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh. Santana knocked his second hit of the game, while Vargas and Rodriguez reached on consecutive walks. Ortiz was the next batter up, and he sent a sacrifice fly deep to center to score Santana. Two batters later, Arcia got his second hit of the game, scoring Vargas and putting the Wings up 7-0.

Dean (11-11) left the game after a solid outing. Dean pitched eight shutout innings, allowing five hits and one walk, while striking out three. He threw 94 pitches, 72 for strikes.

A.J. Achter came in for the ninth inning, working around one walk retired the final three outs of the game.

Beresford now has a hit in 11 of his last 13 games, and Santana extended his multi-hit streak to five games, going two-for-five and scoring two runs.

The Red Wings out-hit Pawtucket 11-5. The 21 shutouts by the team is the most in the International League since Tidewater's staff posted 21 shutouts in 1975.
