Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - A.J. Reed belted two home runs and drove in four to lead the Hooks to an 8-6 win over San Antonio before 6,077 Saturday night at Whataburger Field.

With the game tied at six in the bottom of the seventh Reed and Jon Kemmer hit back-to-back solo homers to break the tie and give the Hooks a two-run lead. It was Reed's second long ball of the night, after he hit a three-run blast in the first that traveled 392 feet.

With two home runs Saturday night, Reed has 10 as a Hook and 33 overall, which leads Minor League Baseball.

San Antonio started the scoring with a pair of first inning doubles against Hooks' starter Edison Frias, who went six innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits, but took a no-decision.

Reed's first home run of the night gave Corpus Christi a 3-1 lead. Colin Moran extended the margin with a two-run shot in the third, his ninth of the year, off San Antonio starter Ronald Herrera. The 20-year-old Herrera went four and two-thirds innings and allowed nine hits, and six runs, five earned, with three strikeouts.

The Hooks would add one more against Herrera in the third, as the Missions committed two errors, allowing Jack Mayfield to score from third.

San Antonio tied the game in the seventh with three runs against Travis Ballew, but Reed and Kemmer bailed the Hooks out with their long balls in the bottom of the frame.

Ruben Alaniz (6-3) picked up the win in relief, Eric Yardley (0-1) took the loss in his Double-A debut, and Jandel Gustave earned his 17th save.

In the first game of his major league rehab assignment, George Springer went 1-for-4 with a base hit and a run scored. Kemmer, Reed and Danry Vasquez each extended hitting streaks to eight games.

The series against San Antonio continues Sunday when the Hooks send Michael Feliz (6-3, 2.23) to the mound against the Missions' Bryce Morrow (4-3, 3.95). It's H-E-B Kids Day, which means kids run the bases postgame, and fans will receive a Hooks 2016 schedule magnet presented by CPL Retail Energy.
