Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Adam Engel slammed a leadoff home run, and Brandon Brennan and Brian Clark combined to shut out the Frederick Keys 4-0 to clinch the Dash's first playoff berth since 2012 on Saturday at BB&T Ballpark.

Thanks to their 13th shutout victory and Carolina's 2-0 loss to Lynchburg, Winston-Salem (39-21, 69-61) earned its fourth playoff appearance in the Dash era. A crowd of 6,332 watched the Dash punch their playoff ticket for the first time ever at BB&T Ballpark.

In his second start since coming off the disabled list, Brennan didn't allow a hit over four innings. Clark (9-4) finished the final five, scattering three hits with four strikeouts against two walks.

Engel swatted his seventh home run and third leadoff shot to begin the bottom of the first. The Loveland, Ohio, native went 3-for-4 and swiped his 64th base, the most of any White Sox farmhand since Ruddy Yan stole 76 bags in 2003 for Winston-Salem.

With one out in the third, a bunt single and error place Engel on second. Jake Peter ripped a base hit off Frederick (29-33, 61-71) starter Josh Walker (0-1) to right to plate Engel and make the score 2-0.

Again, poor defense from the Keys added to the Dash's lead in the fourth. Nick Basto doubled to lead off the inning. Two batters later, a two-base error brought him into score, increasing Winston's advantage to 3-0.

Nolan Earley jumpstarted the seventh frame with a double before Cleuluis Rondon sacrificed him to third. Two batters later, Engel singled to drive in Earley and make it 4-0.

Yency Almonte (3-2, 2.36 ERA) starts the final home game of the regular season on Sunday against Frederick's Mikey O'Brien (3-5, 1.94 ERA). Pregame radio coverage is available at 1:45 p.m., with the first pitch at 2 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App.

The Dash host their final regular season home game of the 2015 season on Sunday. As part of Fan Appreciation, the Kids Zone, powered by Airbound Trampoline Park, will be free to all those in attendance at the game. For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
