Curve Strand 12 on Base in 3-1 Loss to Thunder

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve totaled eleven hits but brought across just one run and fell to the Trenton Thunder, 3-1, on Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

The Curve (70-63) stranded 12 baserunners and hit just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position against the Thunder (68-63).

Trenton jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Curve starter Matt Benedict (Loss, 5-7) with an RBI single by Rob Segedin in the third.

The Thunder extended the lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning with a RBI single by Tyler Wade and added run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly by Jake Cave.

The Curve avoided a shutout with an RBI single by Max Moroff in the seventh inning against Thunder starter Eric Ruth (Win, 9-4). Ruth allowed the one run on eight hits over 6.1 innings with five strikeouts.

The Curve had two hits in the ninth to put the tying run on base, but Trenton closer Mark Montgomery (Save, 16) stuck out Erich Weiss to end the game.

Benedict allowed three earned runs on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts over 6.1 innings.

Josh Smith pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief for the Curve and extended his scoreless streak to 14 innings. He has not allowed a run in his eight outings this month.

Adam Frazier went 2-for 5 with a run scored. Jose Osuna, Mel Rojas Jr. and Stetson Allie also had two hits.

The Curve and the Thunder conclude the four-game set on Sunday night at 6 p.m. at Peoples Natural Gas Field, the final home game of the 2015 regular season. The game will be followed by a Fireworks show. Southpaw Steven Brault (7-3, 2.40) takes the hill for the Curve. Right-hander Rookie Davis (1-0, 6.20) will pitch for Trenton.
