Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 29, 2015) - The Carolina League released its Year-End All-Star roster on Saturday, and a league-leading five Winston-Salem players made the team: right-hander Matt Heidenreich, outfielder Adam Engel, infielders Jake Peter and Trey Michalczewski and catcher Omar Narvaez.

Not only did Heidenreich nab the Starting Pitcher spot on the Year-End All-Star roster, but he was named the CL's Pitcher of the Year. Even though he went to Double-A on August 17, Heidenreich still leads the league in wins with 12, while his 2.76 ERA places third in the circuit. The Coronado, Calif., native shared first place with 130.2 innings pitched, while his 103 strikeouts were third at the time of his promotion.

Named to the Year-End squad as a utility outfielder, Engel is batting .254/.341/.369 with six home runs and 39 RBIs, playing in all but two games this season for the Dash. The Loveland, Ohio, native's 62 stolen bases are not only the most of any Carolina League player, but also the third-best of any player in the Minors. Engel has precisely 30 more steals than the next-best Carolina League player. Ranked as the 17th-best prospect in the White Sox system, Engel tops the league in games (127), at-bats (488) and runs (85). He places second in hits (124), tied for second in triples (8) and fourth in both walks (60) and total bases (180).

Michalczewski, the sixth-best prospect in the White Sox organization according to MLB.com, leads all active Carolina League players with 71 RBIs on the year. The switch-hitting third baseman is batting .260/.335/.397 with seven home runs, and his 32 doubles are just one off the pace to lead the circuit. Michalczewski also places fourth in at-bats (446), fourth in extra-base hits (43) and fifth in total bases (177).

Peter has put together two separate 14-game hitting streaks this season, tied for the second-longest on the circuit. The Mason City, Iowa, native's name is littered among the CL's leaderboard, ranking second in at-bats (470), tied for third in runs scored (74) and fourth in both games played (123) and hits (122). Peter is batting .260/.329/.351 with 24 doubles, five triples, three homers and 55 RBIs this season.

A Midseason All-Star, Narvaez is 10th in the league with a .268 batting average. The Venezuelan catcher has walked 36 times against only 28 strikeouts in 93 games; his 12.96 plate appearance-to-strikeout ratio is not only the leader on the CL, but also bests second place by more than three plate appearances.

All but three Carolina League teams are represented on the Year-End All-Star list at least once. League managers, general managers and media members voted on these awards.
