Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Held scoreless through seven, the Sky Sox would rally with consecutive four-run frames to stun the Albuquerque Isotopes in a late 8-2 win before a Friday night crowd of 9,187 at Isotopes Park.

Sox starter Josh Roenicke kept the Isotopes offense off the board over his five innings of work. The right-hander allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out three in the strong performance.

Albuquerque righty Eddie Butler was equally impressive, allowing four hits while issuing five free passes in his 6.1 innings of shutout ball.

Brandon Kintzler took over for Roenicke in the home sixth of the scoreless contest. The righty reliever allowed two runs on three hits in the frame with the big blows coming on a Roger Bernadina RBI double and Tom Murphy run-scoring single. The Isotopes would maintain the new 2-0 lead until the pivotal eighth inning.

Tommy Kahnle (1-3, 5.09) took the ball to start the Sky Sox eighth after Butler and left-hander Rex Brother combined to work a scoreless seventh. The righty would blow the save for Albuquerque, allowing four runs in the frame to give Colorado Springs the late lead. Kyle Wren's leadoff walk was followed by a Luis Sardinas double to start the frame, setting the Sox up for a prime no-out run-scoring opportunity. Juan Centeno cashed in with an RBI sac fly to left, scoring Wren to cut the visiting side's deficit to one. Colorado Springs would not the game on a Kahnle wild pitch to Matt Clark as Sardinas crossed the plate with the Sox second run. Clark followed with a walk before Matt Dominguez capped the frame's scoring with a two-run blast to left field. Dominguez's eighth round-tripper of the season gave the Sky Sox their first lead of the night with the 4-2 advantage.

Rob Wooten (5-2, 5.03) tossed a scoreless seventh before recording two outs in the eighth, combining with lefty Michael Strong to maintain the newly-earned 4-2 lead.

The Sox battered Brooks Brown for four earned runs in the ninth to double their offensive output and take a commanding 8-2 lead. The right-hander issued two walks and gave up four hits, including RBI knocks by Sardinas, Dominguez and Matt Long. The second run of the frame came courtesy of a throwing error by Tom Murphy that allowed Wren to cross the plate.

Four different Sox batters would drive runs home in the late blowout with Dominguez's three RBis leading the way.

Jaye Chapman took the mound for the home ninth, allowing a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning of work to secure the Sky Sox 8-2 win. Colorado Springs improves to 57-76 with the win as they drop Albuquerque to 58-76 on the season.

The Sky Sox will look to make it two straight against these same Isotopes on Saturday night in game three of this four-game set. Brent Suter (3-0, 2.59) gets the ball for Colorado Springs as he leads the way against fellow southpaw Rudy Owens (1-5, 5.40) with first pitch set for 7:05 PM MDT from Isotopes Park in Albuquerque.
