Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind. - Down 5-0, and being out-hit 13-1 in the ballgame, the Gary SouthShore RailCats rallied to take a 6-5 lead in the eighth inning, but coughed up the lead in the ninth and lost it in the 11th as the Can-Am League's New Jersey Jackals came back to win 7-6 in extras at the U.S. Steel Yard Friday night.

RailCats ace Charle Rosario was hit hard and hit often in his second-shortest outing of the season Friday, giving up four earned runs on 12 hits in only 4.2 innings.

From there, the 'Cats (43-48) began their chip-away comeback.

Jarred Mederos drove in Alex Hernandez with a single in the fifth before put two across in the sixth and one more in the seventh.

Then the 'Cats made it 6-5 in the eighth on a Jon Jones pinch hit single and Jackals' error.

But New Jersey (49-39) came back in the ninth as RailCats closer Andy Loomis blew his second save in 20 chances Friday, and the 6,128 in attendance were treated to free baseball at the Steel Yard.

Andy Roberts worked a perfect 10th inning, but Jackals' first baseman roped an RBI double to center in the 11th to put New Jersey on top for good.

The RailCats are now only three losses or Laredo Lemurs' wins away from postseason elimination, trailing the Lemurs by seven games in the hunt for the wild card.

The 'Cats finish up the homestand with two more over the weekend against New Jersey as Fernando Gonzalez (3-1) and Shawn Sanford (1-2) go toe-to-toe Saturday at 6:10 p.m.
