The Chiefs jumped on the Wings early, as Taylor Rogers allowed a pair of one-out base hits resulting in a run scoring. Rogers was able to get on track and retire the next two batters, minimizing the damage.

The rough start continued into the second for Rogers, who surrendered a lead-off home run to Kevin Keyes. The solo shot put the Wings in a 2-0 hole.

The Wings got their first hit of the night in the bottom half of the second when Kennys Vargas ripped a base hit into right field. The Vargas hit was the only offense the Wings were able to muster in the second, stranding a runner on base.

Rogers just couldn't get it going, surrendering another lead-off hit, which led to a two-run home run by Tyler Moore. . An error and another pair of base hits resulted in another Chiefs run scoring, and the end of Rogers' night. Rogers (9-12) pitched 2 1/3 innings, surrendering nine hits, seven runs (six earned), and one walk, while striking out one. He threw 65 pitches, 40 for strikes.

Tim Shibuya came on in relief of Rogers. . Shibuya gave up a triple and a single to the first two batters he faced, resulting in three more runs scoring. After the top-half of the third inning, the Wings found themselves at an 8-0 deficit.

Argenis Diaz left the game after being hit by a pitch in the third, and was replaced by Doug Bernier. Next up was Santana, who hit safely, moving Bernier into scoring position. Two batters later, Xavier Avery took advantage of the baserunners, knocking a double, scoring Bernier and Santana, and cutting the Chiefs lead to six.

After giving up eight runs in the first three innings, things started working for the Wings on the defensive side. A diving catch by Avery saved a base hit in the fourth inning, and Shibuya was able to settle down, retiring seven of the final nine batters he faced, while keeping any Chiefs from crossing home plate.

Alex Meyer took over in the sixth, striking out the first two batters he faced to end the inning. After retiring six of the first seven batters he faced, Meyer found himself in a no out, bases loaded situation in the eighth. The righty forced a pop out, and struck out the next batter to keep the baserunners at bay, but a passed ball allowed a run to score, making the score 9-2 at the end of the inning.

Chiefs starter Paolo Espino (7-6) exited the game after the seventh inning. Espino pitched seven innings, surrendering four hits, two runs, and one walk, while striking out 6. Espino threw 105 pitches, 71 for strikes.

Cole Johnson took to the mound to close out the game surrendering a walk and a base hit, but managed to keep the Chiefs from adding to their lead.
