Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Jared King delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly to center field, 1-0, against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 11 innings Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Matt Koch matched a season-high by going seven innings, allowing just three hits. It was Binghamton's first walk-off win in 10 weeks.
The two teams combined to leave 19 men on base and go 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position, wasting ample opportunities in regulation.
Ryan Schimpf doubled to right field to begin the second inning, before Koch struck out the next three batters to escape the jam. Two innings later, Koch worked around a runners on the corner with one out jam to continue to keep the Fisher Cats off the board. Koch also worked around leadoff walks in two separate innings.
The B-Mets, meanwhile, left two on base in three of the first six innings against Taylor Cole and grounded into three different double plays in the game.
Adam Kolarek worked around two walks in the eighth inning, while Paul Sewald stranded a leadoff single in the ninth to keep the game tied.
Joe Benson drew a one-out walk in the ninth and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Greg Infante struck out Jonathan Galvez, before walking Jared King. Albert Cordero grounded out to short to end the threat and send the game to extra innings.
The B-Mets couldn't take advantage of a leadoff single in the 10th inning, before pushing across the winning run in the 11th. Reliever John Anderson, working in his second inning of relief, struck out the first man of the 11th. He then issued a walk to Vince Belnome and a single to Benson to put men on the corners. He intentionally walked Galvez to load the bases with one out.
Jared King lofted a pitch to shallow centerfield where Roemen Fields made a diving catch, allowing Gilbert Gomez to score the winning run.
Jeff Walters (1-0) earned the win, allowing a hit in a scoreless 11th inning. Anderson (6-6) suffered the loss, allowing the winning run in his 1-2/3 innings.
The B-Mets (72-59) continue their series with the Fisher Cats Saturday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Rainy Lara takes the hill against RHP Conner Greene. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
