Building on a good start to the U-20 cycle, a group of young players that includes three FC Edmonton Academy graduates will gather in Toronto for Canada's latest camp under head coach Rob Gale in anticipation of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017.

Christian Kaiswatum is one of four goalkeepers for FC Edmonton's first team, signing in 2014 after participating as a member of the club's Academy program. His first experience at the national level occurred in 2013, where he was a member of Canada's U-17 squad for the U-17 FIFA World Cup UAE.

Midfielder Shamit Shome recently completed his tenure with the Eddies Academy program and will now compete for the University of Alberta Golden Bears for the 2015 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) varsity season. The 18-year-old joined the national program last year after being scouted in 2014.

Thomas Shores is also a 2015 graduating member of FC Edmonton Academy and was first identified by Gale as a standout midfielder nearly four years ago. Shores will compete at the NCAA Division 1 level with James Madison University Dukes beginning this season. Both Shome and Shores made their international debuts with Canada last year.

Gale guided this group of 1997-born players through a tournament in Slovakia last April and has now assembled the team in Toronto for an eight-day training camp.

"This is the first domestic camp I have had which is going to be great," said Gale, noting that the camp fits well with the FIFA World Cup Qualifier, also taking place in Toronto next week.

"The camp will be a first opportunity for me to look at some of the players from the last U-17 cycle and build them into the group that has done well on our last two European tours."

Training starts on Monday, Aug. 31 and will take place primarily at Kia Training Ground, the training venue of Toronto FC. The camp concludes with a final day of training on Sept. 5.

On Sept. 4, the U-20 players will watch Canada face Belize at BMO Field in a FIFA World Cup Qualifiers home-and-away elimination series. All Canadian fans are encouraged to support the team on the road to Russia 2018, with tickets to this match available via Ticketmaster.ca starting at just $20. The match, presented by BMO, will also be broadcast across the country on canadasoccer.com.
